Solutions for substations

Productivity partner in substation construction, operations, and maintenance.

We are industry experts in engineering total solutions to help build, run or update your substations: from fastening of equipment to concrete or steel, to support designs, to the cable termination and penetrations with firestop, and much more. Our solutions target to help accelerate your project's timeline, increasing cost efficiency, and mitigating safety risks.

Hilti also brings the complete solution with prefabricated assemblies – single supports (electrical, cabling, high voltage cables, HVAC, piping), multi-discipline supports, and integrated floor systems. As a developer and manufacturer of a broad utility relevant portfolio, from anchoring systems to the Nuron cordless tool platform, we are dedicated to productivity and safety – helping projects worldwide achieve operational excellence more quickly.

Cable Supports (including High-Voltage)

Safer, more flexible cable routing helps reduces the risk of short circuits

Daily operations of an electrical substation require the safe transit of thousands of cables. The public depends on their utilities to build systems to withstand the risk of short circuits, which could lead to damage or shutdowns.

Welded supports are time-consuming and expensive in construction, but they can also limit attachments and the ability to make tight bends and maximize spacing. In contrast, Hilti cable supports with cable cleat connectors deliver a safer, more flexible cable routing system that can be modified based on its modular nature to changes in cable configuration. Finally, these solutions allow for easier visual inspection, making routine maintenance checks and QA/QC protocols faster to execute and help detect potential issues before they become major problems. Heavy-load cable trays, waterfall, and high-voltage cables are all in scope.

HVAC duct supports

A weld-free, schedule-saving solution that helps minimize re-work

Welded HVAC duct supports are heavy, labor intensive, and challenging to modify during construction and over the life of the substation. With modular HVAC duct supports, we take an innovative approach to duct routing that is more flexible and easier to install. We help drive productivity throughout by removing welding from the equation and using anchors that just one worker can place.

Multidiscipline Supports

Route your wiring, HVAC and piping systems together for more optimized space and efficiency

Integration of previously separate scopes, for example, wiring, HVAC, and piping into combined multiple system supports has been a significant advantage for substations where space and clearance are always a hot commodity. Thanks to Hilti's modular support solutions, including hardware, software, and services, you can remove the cross-functional engineering and fabrication barriers off your teams' plates. Working with our skilled consulting team members, we can help provide code-compliant, cross-discipline configurations that can then be cut, kit, pre-assembled using Hilti services, and sent to the site for your installation.

Raised floor systems

Integrated, flexible structure with fully designed and pre-fabricated options

Floating floors are commonly used to create structures for cabling in substations. Traditionally constructed with a complex combination of panel stands, electrical cable tray supports, and floating floor units. These antiquated methods are more difficult to install, harder to modify, and leave narrow room for their intended purpose.

Integrated floors systems help solve these issues by creating smart, single structures. Lightweight yet strong, these fit-for-purpose designed solutions allow you to route cables easier and change layouts to accommodate last-minute modifications and adjustments.

Fastening equipment to concrete

More reliable solutions for mechanical and chemical anchoring

Fastening equipment to concrete at substations can be complex. In addition, equipment may have to be installed to cracked concrete, in awkward places or in harsh environments. We help you solve these challenges with a broad range of mechanical and chemical post-installed anchors to support with fastening to concrete in different situations. Our tools make anchor layout and installation faster and simplier, while PROFIS anchor software helps you select the right solution for any application requiring you to fasten equipment using post-installed anchors.

Passive fire protection

Type-approved firestopping for all your key applications

Passive fire protection is a critical priority in the substation environment. Any outbreak of fire needs to be contained in as small an area as possible – for as long as possible. While traditional mortar board and grout firestopping can be effective for through-penetrations, it is messier and slower to install. Our higher-performing range of passive firestopping products helps makes firestopping quicker and more robust. This includes firestop sleeves, collars and bandages, plus cast-in devices and cavity barriers. Firestop Documentation Manager software helps make it simpler to design and select type-approved firestopping for your specific applications.
